Propane tank exchange, brought to your door

We are a propane tank exchange that comes to you. Put your empty tank on the porch and we take it away, leaving a full one in its place — no gas station, no cage, no cylinder rolling around in the back of the car.

What a Lit propane tank exchange is

A propane tank exchange means trading an empty cylinder for a filled one of the same size, instead of waiting while yours is refilled. Nearly everywhere else, that means driving to a locked cage outside a grocery store, hardware store or gas station, and carrying tanks in both directions.

Lit is the same exchange without the trip. You order in the app, put the empty tank outside, and a driver swaps it for a full one. It works the way milk delivery used to — the empties go out, the full ones come in, and you do not have to be there for it.

Every tank we leave is filled and ready to connect. Exchanges are like for like, so a 20 lb empty comes back as a 20 lb full, and the empty cylinder leaves with the driver.

Exchanging at a tank cage

  • Drive to the store and back, with a tank in the car both ways
  • Carry the empty in and the full one out yourself
  • Hope the cage still has the size you came for
  • Find someone with the key to the cage
  • Get a full cylinder home in a passenger vehicle

Exchanging with Lit

  • Order in about a minute from your phone
  • Leave the empty outside — you do not need to be home
  • Choose the size you need when you order
  • Watch the driver on the map on the way
  • Find the full tank where the empty one was

How propane tank exchange works

Like the milkman, but for propane. You put the empty tank out, we take it away and leave a full one in its place.

  1. 1

    Order in the app

Pick your tank size and whether you are exchanging an empty tank or buying a spare. It takes about a minute.

  2. 2

    Set your empty tank out

Leave it on the porch or in the driveway, wherever you told us to look. You do not need to be home.

  3. 3

    We bring the full tank

Your driver sets a filled tank of the same size where the empty one was. Track them on the map.

  4. 4

    We take the empty away

The empty leaves with the driver. No trip to a tank cage, no line at a counter, no tank in your trunk.

Propane tank sizes we exchange

Every exchange is like for like — you get back the same size you put out, filled and ready to connect. The 20 lb grill cylinder is the one most households swap, but we carry the larger sizes and the forklift cylinders too.

  • 20 lb standard propane grill cylinder

20 lb - Standard Grill Tank

Ideal for barbecue grills, patio heaters and other small outdoor appliances. This is the most common choice for residential outdoor cooking.

  • 30 lb standard RV propane cylinder

30 lb - Standard RV Tank

Commonly used in RVs for heating and cooking. It offers a compact size with greater capacity than a standard grill tank.

  • 40 lb propane cylinder

    40 lb Propane Tank

Suitable for larger heating projects or residential appliances that need more fuel, providing a longer running time.

  • 100 lb propane cylinder for home heating

    100 lb Propane Tank

Often used for home heating, hot water, dryers and fireplaces, or as a primary source in residential setups where natural gas is not available.

  • 33.5 lb aluminium forklift propane cylinder

33.5 lb Forklift Cylinder - Aluminum

Designed specifically for forklifts. The lightweight aluminium cylinder is easy to handle and durable under industrial conditions.

  • 33.5 lb steel forklift propane cylinder

33.5 lb Forklift Cylinder - Steel

Tailored for forklift use, this robust steel cylinder offers resilience and reliability in demanding environments.

No empty tank to trade in?

Buy a spare instead. You get a filled cylinder outright with nothing to hand back, which is how most people end up with a second tank and stop running out mid-cookout. After that, the spare goes into the rotation and you exchange whichever one is empty. The full comparison is on buying versus exchanging a propane tank.

Propane tank exchange questions

How does propane tank exchange work?

You order an exchange in the Lit app or on this site, then leave your empty tank outside at the spot you gave us. The driver collects the empty and sets a filled tank of the same size in its place. There is no trip to a gas station or a tank cage, and nothing to carry.

Do I have to be home for a propane tank exchange?

No. Leave the empty tank somewhere the driver can reach it — a porch, a driveway, a side gate — and add a note on the order if it is hard to find. The full tank is left in the same spot.

Is it cheaper to exchange or refill a propane tank?

Refilling is usually cheaper per gallon, because you pay for the propane that actually goes in. An exchange trades that for speed: you get a filled tank immediately instead of waiting at a counter while yours is filled. With Lit the drive disappears from the comparison entirely, since the exchange happens at your address.

What size propane tanks do you exchange?

The 20 lb standard grill tank, the 30 lb RV tank, 40 lb and 100 lb cylinders, and 33.5 lb forklift cylinders in both aluminium and steel. Exchanges are like for like, so a 20 lb empty comes back as a 20 lb full.

What happens to my empty propane tank?

It leaves with the driver. You never have to store an empty cylinder, load one into a car or haul it to a refill counter.

What if I do not have an empty tank to exchange?

Buy a spare instead. You get a filled tank outright with nothing to hand back, and from then on you can exchange whichever cylinder runs out.

Where do you exchange propane tanks?

Boise, Caldwell, Eagle, Kuna, Meridian, Middleton, Nampa and Star. Coverage grows, so check your ZIP code on the home page for the current list — it is generated from the same data our order flow validates against.
