Lit Propane is a propane tank exchange service that comes to you. You leave your empty tank outside, a driver takes it away, and a full one of the same size is left in its place — so there is no trip to a gas station and no tank cage in a store parking lot. Ordering, driver tracking and payment all happen in the app or on the website.
How does propane tank exchange work?
Order the tank size you need, then set your empty tank outside in the spot you described on the order. Your driver collects the empty and leaves a filled one of the same size in its place. Nothing is refilled at your address — the swap is tank for tank. There is more detail on how tank exchange works.
Can I exchange my empty propane tank for a full one?
Yes — that is the core of what we do. Choose the size you want to exchange, leave the empty out in the spot you specified on your order, and the driver swaps it for a filled one. Exchanges are like for like: a 20 lb empty is replaced with a 20 lb full tank, 30 lb for 30 lb, and so on.
What if I do not have an empty tank to exchange?
You can buy a filled tank outright instead of exchanging one. That is the usual choice for a first order, or when you want a spare so the grill never goes cold mid-cookout. Every order after that can be an exchange. The propane information page covers the sizes we carry.
Do I need to be home when the driver comes?
No. Leave the empty tank in the spot you described on your order and the driver will collect it and leave the full one there. It works the way the milkman did — the swap happens whether or not you are in.
Do you exchange propane tanks in my area?

How do I order a propane tank exchange?
Log in to the app or the website, pick the tank sizes you need, choose exchange or buy for each one, and tell us where to leave the tank. You can follow the driver on the map on the way.
How can I get started with Lit Propane?

How can I make sure my propane tank is safe to use?
Check the tank for rust, dents or damage around the valve and the base before you use it, keep it upright, and never store one indoors or in a hot vehicle. If a tank looks damaged, stop using it and get in touch with us.
What should I do if I smell gas?
If you suspect a leak, do not use anything that could spark. Turn off the tank valve only if you can reach it safely, leave the area, and call your local emergency services. Once you are safe, contact our support team and we will help with the tank.
